Today we have Albert Lanier on the show to sit down with Vida to talk about the perceptions and constructs of male personality types. Albert Lanier has been a journalist and writer for more than 21 years. Lanier holds a BA from the University of Hawaii-West Oahu and has been a contributing writer for Pacific Business News and Honolulu Weekly. He has also freelanced for a variety of publications including Hawaii Magazine, Asian Week and Edible Hawaiian Islands. His recent work has been featured on the news site Civil Beat as well as the business magazine Accelerate and the nightlife publication Metro HNL. Lanier previously served as a staff writer for The Molokai Dispatch in 2008.

CS 473: Understanding Colorism Beyond Common Discourse pt 1



Today we have Robert Reece on the show to talk about colorism. Robert received his PhD in sociology from Duke University and is currently an assistant professor of sociology at UTAustin. His research explores the question “what is race,”, particularly through the exploration of themes related to the origins of racialization and racialized social outcomes, the slipperiness of racial categories, and how physical appearance maps on to and intersects with race. Roberts’ work has been published in various peer-reviewed journals and in public outlets such as the Southern Poverty Law Center’s magazine Teaching Tolerance and the National Housing Institute’s blog Shelterforce.

Today we have returning guests Mtume Gant and Josh Boerman on the show to talk about the play Fat Ham. Mtume Gant is Director/Actor/Writer and Asst Professor of Film at Purchase College. Josh Boerman is co-host of the podcast “Worst Of All Possible Worlds”. The Worst of All Possible Worlds (@TWOAPW) is a weekly podcast of case studies in the pop culture of a dying empire. Co-hosts Josh (@boshj) and Brian (@spocks_brian) grew up evangelical in Michigan and New Mexico, while A.J. (@thefuzzymask) grew up Catholic in California. Together, they deconstruct how narrative and artistic choices in popular media reflect or subvert the ongoing reactionary project in contemporary America and the world at large.
